On a recent trip, I heard a tour guide talking about the origins of Brer Rabbit.  Apparently, it's undecided if the original stories originated in Africa or among Native Americans, but the first American versions were written right there! Right were I was standing.

In case you don't know the stories, they are about a little rabbit that outsmarts his opponents and uses extremes measures to overcome extreme situations.  Though he is the subject of the stories, his wily ways are not always honorable.  In the American version of the stories, the rabbit represents the African slave, who would have been punished to teach their children overtly how to be sly and crafty, since the fox and other opponents represented their white slave owners.

Made me think about folklore and it's cultural importance.  It seems it's useful for more than the obvious historical, archaeological or anthropological reasons. Folklore teaches what the past knew, shares about our ancestry, and bestows ancient insights. Folklore gives us a sense of belonging to a specific culture and allows us to learn of our heritage in a very uniquely special way.  It gives us the ability to know who our people were and are.

So, we have our own folklore here on MM.  Villians and heroes, town idiots and sages, medicine men, tricksters, special holidays, adoptions, whores and virgins.  We even have a town Meating hall and a confessional.  Wonder how our descendents will interpret these blogs when they discover the lost MM scrolls in a few thousand years, after the internet as we know it has been discovered in some antique dust-filled warehouse.

It's officially my birthday month. Also the month for my 25th high school reunion
And also...tada, the month that a bazillion monts of waiting for divorce proceedings to be finally final, finally come to an end.  My friends that have heard 'bout that, thanks for the well-wishes.  And my friends that haven't, it's over, nothing to tell. Time for iced tea and a porch swing.
So much to celebrate, where to begin?  I'll take votes now for where I should go to vacate.  Starting, of course with Ibiza, as I've been heading there SINCE high school. I speak Castillian, so this is a strong contender.
Thoughts? Suggestions? Invitations?

I'm here.  Alive.  My friends in MM-land, I could go into "Where In The World Is Waldo", but seriously, I'm not in the mood.  Let's just say that my ever-grpwing hunger for life has forced me into the light of that bright big ball of hydrogen in the sky.  Yes, away from my computer screen, and into the world.  I have met so many people, as was my intention, that I cannot keep up with the plans I make!  Must remember to caclulate in "driving time", lol.

Howdy friends!  I am here...not a Pisces (Virgo, cusp of Libra)...but I seem to like the fish people :) By coincidence, I'm sure, hehe, not a big follower of horoscope signs.  Hey...I'm moving with the great hijack here - September 21 - who shares my b'day?

LOL EVA,,,For YEARS I thought my daughter was born on Sept 21..because I had been in labor forever and was finally drugged into a stupor then had a c section....and 5 days recovery, heavily drugged.
She was born on Sept 24th.
It was only recently that I could remember her real birthday.

LETS celebrate YOUR bday this year.......i 'll start saving up now.

horoscopes are amazingly accurate IF you know how to read a natal chart.

wow pat, you JUST barely made the fish-ness school.
I think we should all go snorkeling...on the Great Barrier Reef,,naturally.
Ahhh being a fish,,,good stuff

Yes, my friend, I've barely made it into Pisces world.  But I AM there....

Snorkeling sounds good to me!!!  That I could do.  Oh, God---how I love the water!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  Fresh water, mostly, for me.  I could swim in it forever.  I could drown in it---that would be a "good" death indeed.  WATER........I can't get enough of it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!   I'm not a big believer in "horoscopy."  {LOLOLOLOL}.  But I do believe in my soul being water-logged--or not!!!!!!!!!!!.

February 21 for this Pisces.   Now, suit up, everyone--or not.  The pool is over here.  Just a few more fish and we'll have enough for the Upstream Team vs. the Downstream Team in a grand game of water volleyball.

In light of current MM world events...a fable:

Once upon a time lived a beautiful Queen with large breasts.

Infidotius, the dragon slayer, obsessed over the Queen for this reason.  He knew that the penalty would be death if he touched them, but he could think of little else.

One day Infidotius sought the help of Horatio, the King's sorcerer.  Horatio offered to arrange for Infidotius to satisfy his quest - the cost would be 1000 gold coins.

Naturally, Infidotius readily agreed to Horatio's scheme.  So, the next day Horatio made a batch of itching powder and poured a little bit into the Queen's bra while she bathed.  Soon after she dressed, the itching commenced and grew intense.

Upon being summoned to the Royal Chambers to address the problem, Horatio informed the King and Queen that only a special saliva, if applied for 4 hours, would cure this type of itch, and that, throughout the kingdom, perfect chemistry was found only in the saliva of Infidotius.

The King, eager to help his Queen, quickly summoned Infidotius to their chambers.  Horatio then slipped Infidotius the antidote for the itching powder.  As instructed, Infidotius put into his mouth, and for the next 4 hours, Infidotius worked fervently and diligently on the Queen's large and magnificent breasts.  The Queen's itching was eventually relieved.

Infidotius' passion was satified and he was hailed throughout the land as a hero.

Upon his return home, Infidotius found Horatio, demanding his payment of 1000 gold coins.  With his obsession now fulfilled, Infidotius couldn't have cared less, knowing that Horatio could never report this matter to the King...and with a laugh, Infidotius told Horatio to get lost.

The next day, Horatio slipped a copious dose of the same itching powder into the King's underwear.  The King immediately summoned Infidotius.

The moral, kids...honor - use it or lose it.

I do enjoy the water, though. C'mon in...

Taco meat Shaz??? LOL. Brings up the question of "What's in a taco???" A lot of people here make taco meat from javelinas. They resemble a hog or a pig but they are really large rodents. Next time you might want to use chopped liver as a comparison.

I believe, that the real reference was to carne asada, which technically is not necessarily taco meat...but thin strips of marniated steak, mexican style.
"yo querio " was part of a very funny series of commercials for Taco Bell....
chihuahuas, anyone ?
mark is a fish...hot and cold is what we ARE, among other things.and occasionally, cuttingly sarcastic.

Vicki,

Caption Crook? Storyline? I'm not sure... perhaps I'm getting OldTimers, as I apparently don't recall any of what you or Britt are referring to.

I know... the answers WERE there, but the blogs have been deleted. Bummer!

CG - you're right... life is TOO short (as is my memory)...

What were we talking about?

the topic, for those who have lost it,,,,
was: Brer Rabbit becomes a dead Taco after some guy caught liver in a net.
